Job Title: Residential Children’s Care Manager

Job Summary
Our client provides accommodation and support for children under 16 in a safe and nurturing environment. This role is critical in overseeing the care and development of the children, managing the day-to-day operations of two new residential homes, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The successful candidate will initially assist in the opening and registration of the homes, ensuring they meet Ofsted standards, before transitioning into the role of full-time Registered Manager across two sites in Herne Bay.
Main Purpose of the Job: To provide leadership, guidance, and management to ensure the smooth operation of two residential homes for children under 16. The role involves safeguarding their welfare at all times and overseeing their practical, physical, emotional, and educational needs. The Registered Manager will ensure the homes operate to the highest standard, comply with Ofsted and regulatory requirements, and provide a supportive environment in which the children can thrive and develop.

Key Responsibilities:
Registration and Setup Phase:
Assist with the setup, registration, and licensing of two new residential homes, ensuring compliance with Ofsted and other regulatory bodies for children under 16.
Collaborate with external agencies and stakeholders to ensure a smooth registration process.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and care frameworks aligned with best practices for children's residential care and regulatory standards.
Post-Registration Management:
Oversee the daily management of both residential homes, ensuring high standards of care and safety for children under 16.
Ensure that each child’s care plan is properly implemented, monitored, and updated regularly to reflect their changing needs.
Create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment, addressing children's physical, emotional, behavioural, and educational needs.
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating appropriate ways of resolving conflicts and promoting pro-social behaviour.
Develop and implement effective behaviour management strategies, supporting staff in managing challenging behaviour while promoting positive conduct.
Leadership and Staff Management:
Lead and manage the staff team, including recruitment, training, and supervision, to ensure they are equipped to meet the children’s needs.
Provide strong leadership, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment for staff and children.
Conduct regular supervisions, appraisals, and performance reviews to maintain high standards of care and professional development.
Ensure that all staff receive relevant training in safeguarding, childcare, and other essential skills to enhance their performance.
Compliance and Safeguarding:
Ensure that the homes are compliant with all statutory requirements, including safeguarding, health and safety, and childcare legislation for under-16s.
Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring that all safeguarding procedures are followed and that any concerns are managed appropriately and swiftly.
Keep up to date with relevant childcare legislation and Ofsted regulations, ensuring the homes are compliant at all times.
Maintain accurate records, including care plans, risk assessments, and incident reports, ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated.
Advocacy and External Relations:
Advocate for the children in meetings and reviews, ensuring that their voices are heard and their welfare is prioritised.
Collaborate with external agencies, such as social workers, healthcare providers, and educational institutions, to ensure holistic support for the children.
Encourage and support the children to engage with the community and participate in appropriate social and extracurricular activities.
Site Management and Quality Assurance:
Oversee the financial and administrative management of both homes, ensuring effective budgeting and resource allocation.
Implement quality assurance measures to monitor and improve the care provided, ensuring best practice standards are met.
Ensure both homes are well-maintained and meet health and safety regulations.
Requirements:
Minimum of Secondary Education; Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (or equivalent).
Proven experience as a Registered Manager or in a senior management role within a children’s residential home or a similar care setting.
Experience in the registration and setup of new children’s residential homes is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of childcare legislation, safeguarding, and Ofsted regulations for under-16s.
Excellent leadership skills with experience managing and supporting staff teams.
Proven ability to work effectively in a challenging and emotionally demanding environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing reports and maintaining records.
Ability to manage challenging behaviour and support staff in implementing behaviour management strategies.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across two sites.
Full driving licence and willingness to travel between sites in Herne Bay.
Desirable:
Previous experience in opening and registering children's homes.
